FAQ

Do I need to prime the pump for this tote spary system?

Your spray system uses a CENTRIFUGAL pump, commonly known as a "TRASH PUMP". This style of pump requires priming before use. These pumps are NOT self priming and cannot move air. To prevent damage to your pump, you must make sure that your pump and intake lines are full of water or sealant before you use them. Running the pump dry will cause damage to the pump components.

The pump can lose their prime over time, and you may have to re-prime if you do not use the system regularly.

Priming for Tote Systems
Cast Iron Pumps:
1. Close the valve on the bottom of the tote
2. Remove the fill plug on the top of the pump
3. Fill the pump with water
4. Replace the fill plug
5. Open the valve on the bottom of the tote
6. Begin your work as usual
Aluminum Pumps:
1. Close the valve on the bottom of the tote
2. Place a container below the intake to catch any sealant drips
3. Remove the intake hose from the front of the pump
4. Poor water into the intake on the front of the pump until it is full
5. Poor water into the intake hose until it is full
6. Reconnect the intake hose to the front of the pump
7. Open the valve on the bottom of the tote
8. Begin your work as usual

Can I use sand in my sealer?

This spray system is not designed to spray sealer blended with sand.

An alternate method to add sand would be to apply with a seed spreader after the first coat then apply a second coat of sealer

How often should I flush the system, and how do I do it?

Flushshing the system with water after use is straightforward and helps keep your pump clean and primed for next time. It should be done after each use.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Close the main valve at the bottom of the tote to stop any sealer flow.
  2. Disconnect the suction hose from the tote outlet.
  3. Place the open end of the suction hose into a clean 5-gallon (20-litre) pail filled with water.
  4. Switch the valve above the pump from recirculation to spray mode.
  5. Start the engine and let it run at a low idle.

The pump will now draw water from the pail, circulate it through the system, and spray it out through the gun — right back into the same 5-gallon pail. This creates a closed-loop recirculation that thoroughly flushes the lines, pump, and wand with water. Keep it running for a few minutes until the water runs clear and free of any sealer residue.

Pro Tip: If the water gets too dirty quickly, dump it, refill the pail with fresh water, and repeat until the discharge is clean. This prevents buildup and extends the life of your equipment.
