FlexPost Installation - Step #1 Anchoring Base Plate
The first step to installing FlexPost Bollards, Signs, or Bollard / Sign Combos is to anchor your baseplate. The process will vary slightly depending on what type of ground you will by mounting your FlexPost product on. FlexPost comes with mounting options for concrete, asphalt, natural ground and adhesive mount for other flat surfaces.
Anchoring Base Plate to Natural Ground
Tools Needed
- Rubber Mallet
- 3/4″ Ratchet Wrench
- 3/4″ Wrench
Parts Included
- Natural Ground Spike
- 1 Torsion Spring & Hardware
- Post
- Identify desired mounting location
- Using a rubber mallet, tap the spike into the ground until the ring is flat against the ground
- Using the wrench and ratchet, attach the spring to the stem of the ground spike with the included hardware
- Insert the post into the other end, and secure them using the remaining hardware
- After assembly, allow for 24 hours for the ground to settle for maximum stability
Anchoring Base Plate to Asphalt
Tools Needed
- Rubber Mallet
- Wax Pencil / Marker
- 3/4″ Masonry Drill Bit
- 15/16″ Ratchet
Parts Included
- 1 Base Plate
- 4 Expansion Plugs
- 4 Hex Lag Screws
- 4 Flat Washers
- Place base plate in desired location
- Mark the four base holes with a wax pencil
- Using a 3/4″ masonry bit, drill 5″ in depth
- Use a rubber mallet or hammer to stuff expansion plugs into the drilled holes
- The top of each expansion plug should be flush with the asphalt
- Place the base plate over the four holes and use a socket wrench with a 15/16″ drive to thread all four hex lag screws
- Make sure all four hex lag screws are screwed down tightly
Anchoring Base Plate to Concrete
Tools Needed
- Marker / Wax Pencil
- High Speed Power Drill
- 1/2″ Masonry Drill Bit
- Socket Wrench with 3/4″ Drive
Parts Included
- 1 Base Plate
- 4 Concrete Wedge Bolts
- Place base plate in desired anchoring location
- Mark the four holes with wax pencil
- Using a 1/2″ masonry bit, drill 5″ in depth
- Place the base plate over the four holes and use a socket wrench with a 3/4″ drive to thread all four bolts
- Tighten all 4 bolts so the base plate is flush with the concrete
Anchoring Base Plate with Adhesive
Tools Needed
- Marker
- Gloves
- Standard Caulk Gun
- Rag
Parts Included
- 1 Base Plate
- 1 Tube of MasterWeld 948
- Ensure that the application area is free of dirt, great, oil, and mositure.
- Place the base in desired location and use a marker to outline the exterior of the base
- Using the MasterWeld 948, glue the area within the outline
- Place the base on the adhesive within the drawn lines
- Adhesive will come out the sides. Use a rag to wipe excess. Wait 24 hours for adhesive to be fully cured.
Flex Bollard / Flex Post Installation - Step #2
This step varies depending on the product you are installing. We will break down the process by product type.
- Slide the spring over the cylinder on the base plate.
- Using 1 3″ tap bolt with a washer on it, slide the bolt through base of the spring, and through the holes on the base plate. Add a washer on the other side and fasten with lock nut.
- Slide the Galvanized steel post into the spring.
- Using a 3″ tap bolt, fasten the spring to the post.
- Slip the foam spacer ring over the post.
- Install the anti rotate bollard cap on the top of the post and lock it in place with the self tapping screw provided.
- Slip the bollard cover over top of the foam spacer and slide all the way down to the base plate.
- Use the 1″ cap screw to fasten the bollard cover to the post.
- Place the black cap on the post, and drill in the self tapping screw to lock it in place.
- Slide the foam ring up the post on the opposite end of the black cap.
- With the foam ring side down, insert the post on to the base. Slide the post down until it is fully seated.
- Using the cone point set screws and allen wrench, pierce the post with this set screw for post retention.
- Slide bollard cover down over the foam ring al the way down to the base plate.
- Tighten the cap screw onto the black cap to secure the cap to the bollard cover. DO NOT OVE TIGHTEN!
- Slide the spring over the cylinder on the base plate.
- Using 1 3″ tap bolt with a washer on it, slide the bolt through base of the spring, and through the holes on the base plate. Add a washer on the other side and fasten with lock nut.
- Slide the Galvanized steel post into the spring.
- Using a 3″ tap bolt, fasten the spring to the post.
- Slide the first square double sided sign bracket kit over the post. Use the set screws to fasten the bracket to the pole
- Repeat the process for the second double sided sign bracket.
- Slide the sign post over the spring on the base plate.
- Make sure the sign post is fully seated in the base plate.
- Fasten the cone point set screws with an allen wrench. Tighten so the cone point screws pierce the galvanized post locking it in place.
- Slide the collar halfway up the post.
- Slide foam rings 5″ up the post.
- Foam ring side down, insert the post onto the base. Rotate clockwise while sliding the post down until it is fully seated at the bottom
- Using the cone point set screw and allen wrench, pierce the pipe with this set screw for post retention.
- With collar flush with the top off bollard, tighten the set screw with provided allen wrench. You will need to reset this after an impact.
